Illumination Reimagined
THE PUDDLER MURAL, (1939) - Media Architects was commissioned to create a concept to upgrade the neon backlighting for a 27 foot high iconic Art Deco mural in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. (See additional photos, below.)
Originally backlit with neon and mechanical-timer pulsating lights, Media Architects re-imagined the illumination using high-grade micro-LED tiles to reverse light the etched glass masterpiece. Still-life lighting would re-create the original lighting effect, then every 15 minutes we would initiate a custom animation to bring the steelworker to life.
The mural was created and installed by the Harriton Carved Glass Co., N.Y., in 1939.

Media Architects Founder: Joseph Spryn, ME, DMC-E
When Joseph Spryn founded Media Architects, almost thirty years ago, his premise was to artfully design the finest, seamless, interactive media, technology and befittingly astounding lighting into any architecture.
With his detailed design-engineering and construction management experience, he took on projects that others deemed “too difficult” or “not possible.” The results led very satisfied clients who say they wouldn’t change one thing upon viewing the end result. Many of his clients have been with Media Architects from the company inception, and re-commission him for upgrades and additions to the original installation.
He initiated the much-needed pre-construction and construction-phase Inter-Operability service of: Technology General Contractor, (TGC), for his structural-architect and craftsmen-level trades partners with which he has closely worked over the years. TGC service offers full-project technological guidance and broad-scope professional oversight for efficiency and cooperation during the entire design and construction process.
Structural design architects have been pleased to have us working on the project to guide their contractors with the installations of multi-discipline technology systems and to communicate with their clients regarding the technology integration portion of the project.
Mutual trust and respect: Contractors expressed time and time again, how smoothly the technology-integration progressed throughout the design/build process across all of the trades, and they look forward to working together on the next project.
